Launch your Career at the United Nations : Apply for the UN Young Professionals Programme 2025

Applications are currently open for the 2025 United Nations Young Professionals Programme, a global recruitment initiative that gives highly qualified individuals the chance to begin a career with the UN Secretariat. The programme is designed for talented graduates who aspire to serve as international civil servants. Those who are selected go through a competitive entry exam followed by structured professional development once they officially join the organization

Each year, the exam focuses on different professional fields depending on the staffing needs of the UN. Only applicants from specific participating countries are eligible to apply. To qualify, candidates must be nationals of one of these countries, hold at least a bachelor’s degree or a three-year equivalent qualification in a relevant field, and be no older than 32 years of age, meaning they must have been born on or after January 1, 1993. Fluency in either English or French is also required.

This year’s list of participating countries includes nations from every region of the world. Among them are Andorra, Angola, Belize, Brunei Darussalam, China, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Germany, Grenada, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kiribati, Kuwait, Laos, Liberia, Libya, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Monaco, Nauru, Oman, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Qatar, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sao Tome and Principe, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovenia, the Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Vanuatu, and Viet Nam.

The application process begins with confirming eligibility, followed by reviewing job openings related to the YPP exam area. These listings are usually available around June on the UN Careers Portal and through the Inspira recruitment platform. Candidates are encouraged to read all details carefully to ensure they meet the requirements before applying. Helpful resources such as the YPP Application Guide videos and the UN Applicant Guide, both available through Inspira, can assist applicants in preparing a strong submission.

The timeline for the 2025 cycle begins with applications being accepted from October to November. The screening process follows between November and December, while the examination and assessment period runs from January to April. Shortlisted candidates are then invited for interviews, and final results are typically released between May and June.

The Young Professionals Programme serves as a key entry point for motivated graduates seeking to build a career that contributes to global development, peace, and cooperation through the United Nations.
