CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Construction Superintendent will oversee the day-to-day operations of construction projects related to roads, earthworks, and civil engineering. This role involves ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and construction management, with a particular focus on roads and earthworks.
MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Key accountabilities include:
Supervising and coordinating all construction activities on-site, ensuring that projects are completed according to the project plan, specifications, and standards.
• Leading and managing a team of construction workers, subcontractors, and site personnel. Ensuring that all team members understand their roles and responsibilities and are working effectively towards project goals.
• Monitoring construction work to ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and standards. Conducting regular inspections and assessments to ensure quality workmanship.
• Enforcing strict adherence to health and safety regulations on-site. Conducting safety meetings, risk assessments, and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed.
• Coordinating the use of materials, equipment, and labour to optimize efficiency and minimize costs. Monitoring inventory and order supplies as needed.
• Preparing and submitting daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
• Documenting and reporting any issues, delays, or changes to the project plan to senior management.
• Liaising with Project Managers, engineers, and clients to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns or requirements.
• Identifying and resolving any issues or conflicts that arise during the construction process. Implementing corrective actions as necessary to keep the project on track.
• Assisting in the preparation and management of project budgets. Monitoring expenses and ensuring that projects are completed within financial constraints.
• Providing technical guidance and support to the construction team, ensuring that all work is carried out according to best practices and engineering principles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction supervision, with a strong focus on roads, earthworks, and civil engineering projects.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent understanding of construction processes, methods, and materials, particularly in roads and earthworks.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Proficient in project management software and tools.
