Reports to Manager Support Services
Purpose of the Job:
- To develop and manage a comprehensive investment risk management function aligned to best international practice.
- Execute, monitor and direct investment’s strategic and operational risks that will enable the investments department to effectively and efficiently identify, assess and mitigate risk exposures. Provide input on all investment risks, compliance and mitigation at the vetting of investment both at intuition and ongoing investments.
Key Performance Areas:
- Create a mitigating contingency plan that will enable the organization to avoid loss associated with investments
- Ensure that effective risk monitoring instruments and implemented and maintained.
- Conduct research on various types of risks such as Market Risk, Liquidly Risk, settlement risks, regulatory risk, interested rate risks, forex risks and territorial political risks and produce various research on how these risks impact current investments portfolios, and provide recommendations accordingly, as well as providing recommendations before new investments decisions are made.
- Formulate and ensure effective implementation of investment ris management policies/procedures/strategies and plans
- Set and utilize investment, risk management models, techniques and approaches
- Coordinate, design and maintain the development and maximum use of existing Bloomberg aim to achieve middle office function for listed investments
- Set and maintain VAR reporting framework
- Develop bespoke unlisted investments data sourcing & scrubbing, warehousing management tools to enable risk, compliance and reporting capabilities
- Develop and implement investment risk and compliance management monitoring and analysis methodology
- Provide continuous investment risk management advisory service to department, exco and investment committee
- Perform assessment of investment risk and significant exposures to investment risks
- Effective management of various investment instrument risk types and execution of appropriate risk instruments on treasury management function

Requirements
Job-related qualifications and experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, financial mathematics, actuarial statistics, computer science, engineering commercial law and business analytics with a specialization in risk management and compliance
- Postgraduate qualifications in risk & investment compliance and well as good working knowledge of data warehousing tool such as SQL Microsoft SQL server would be an advantage
- Newly qualified CA/CFA, or studying towards, will be a distinct advantage.
- An honours, master’s degree or equivalent post graduate diploma this is preferred in addition to the minimum
- Five years specialized experience in investment risk and compliance management in either of the following environment, asset management, multi manager, fund or asset consultant business

- Innate understanding of investment risk management process and procedures, process management techniques, investment monitoring and analysis, investment back testing, investment risk assessment and analysis models and techniques, risk monitoring mechanisms,
- Skills:
Strategic planning and thinking, analysis and detailed problem solving, listing critical thinking, project management and auditing of process/functional areas.
