Ausdrill Mining Surface Botswana Proprietary Limited (AMS) has been in operation in Africa since 1993. Initially started in Ghana, AMS has expanded its operations over the years into other countries in West Africa and now Southern Africa. In line with an opportunity that has presented itself in our Botswana operations, we are seeking applications from qualified and experienced candidates to join our team. This position will be based at the Motheo Copper Project, located in Gantsi in Botswana. We are actively seeking to recruit an experienced mining person in the following position:

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and dewatering operations to achieve targets as planned
  • Adherence to client mining plans and set standards by ensuring that drilling and blasting, load and haul and dewatering activities are safely carried out
  • Develop and implement mining strategies, budgets and plans to ensure optimum extraction of the ore bodies, in accordance with deadlines for submission
  • Deliver the annual forecast and budget
  • Assist in preparation of budgets and forecast
  • Provide inputs and guidance to the operational finance team for development of Capital, Stay in Business Cost, Overheads Cost
  • Be a brand ambassador by living the company principles
  • Have input to AMS annual production budget
  • Reconcile Budget to actual production and direct the operation in ensuring set targets are always adhered to
  • Act swiftly to correct any unfavourable cost variances to ensure budget compliance
  • In conjunction with the Technical Services Manager, develop Periodic Forecast to ensure operations are aligned while taking into cognizance budget costs
  • Organise and Utilize Mining Systems to enable smooth running of the mining operation by minimising and managing operational delay in assisting optimum mining
  • Track budgets and bring variances to the attention of Senior Operations team, while working within established budgeting systems
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly reporting requirements are met to the standard expected, always work towards continuous improvement on time and quality aspects
  • Ensure effective supervision in the workplace through initiatives empowering employees
  • Empower the desired AMS Culture of people first, honesty and integrity at all times, innovation, collaboration, to value views and respect for people and cultural norms, to finish what is started and to foster a cohesive and enjoyable workplace.
  • Liaise with the HR to conduct good employee relations especially in the handling of grievances
  • Problem solving of day-to-day issues as they arise
  • Respond positively to any ideas, suggestions or constructive criticisms made by employees and, if necessary and after consultation with Project Manager, act accordingly on them
  • Ensure general duty of care standards are adhered to in the workplace
  • Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) provided are achieved within the time frame
  • Ensure safety of all employees and contractors by developing procedures and management plans that guide daily operations
  • Provide the leadership and motivation necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to all policies, standards, and procedures during the execution of their duties
  • Provide direction in ensuring there is alignment and compliance to the relevant statutory acts The Mine Quarries, Works and Machinery Act, Explosives Act, Employment Act
  • Mining technology systems implementation and management oversight
  • Oversee repair of mining systems hardware and software trouble shooting
  • Ensure life cycle management of technology systems
  • Create a working environment that ensures that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentorship program
  • Execute the implementation of localisation plans and performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and behaviour through effective skills development utilising internal training resources

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering
  • 10 years’ work experience of which three (3) should have been at management level
  • Strong planning, scheduling and implementation skills

Geological Technician (Exploration) – Rossing Uranium

Job Purpose:

 

A vacancy exists for a Geological Technician reporting to the Exploration Geologist within the LOME projects & Studies – Business Development Department. The successful incumbent will collect accurate geological and geotechnical data in the exploration areas for Geologists which will be used to establish from the series of tests and data analysis, the feasibility of developing orebodies.

 

 

Key performance areas

 

  • Maintain Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance
  • Manage core yard activities, including cataloguing, storage, and historical core handling and archiving
  • Collect, capture and report geological and geotechnical data
  • Perform DD core and RC chip logging
  • Conduct sampling (DD & RC), including QA/QC and sample tracking
  • Perform core photography and manage image records
  • Maintain geological databases and reporting outputs
  • Support fieldwork (mapping, sampling, geotechnical and geophysical tasks)
  • Assist with drillhole staking, site preparation, and contractor coordination
  • Monitor groundwater levels and report anomalies
  • Manage core yard activities, including storage and historical core handling
  • Ensure data quality through validation and adherence to procedures
  • Maintain consumables and support exploration logistics

 

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Three year-national diplomas in geological/geotechnical studies with 2 years post qualification related experience in a geological environment, of which (1) year should be in an exploration geological environment.

 

OR

 

  • Grade 12 minimum E for English with 5 years related experience in a geological environment, of which (1) year should be in an exploration geological environment.
  • Code B (08) driver’s license
  • A Code of Conduct not older than 6 months is required. A record will not automatically disqualify a candidate
